Why invest in the Canary Islands
“What are the reasons for invest in Fuerteventura?”
The Canary Islands are part of the Spanish territory and are fully integrated into the European Union. The seat of the capital is twofold, divided between the cities of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
The Canary Islands were established as an Autonomous Community (Region) on August 16, 1982, the date on which its Statute of Autonomy came into force. The Canary Islands have their own parliament and governing bodies, which give them the political and social stability of an advanced democratic system. All Community policies apply to the Canary Islands. However, the geographical peculiarities of the islands allows them to benefit from a series of exceptions and very favorable modulations in the application of Community Law.
The Canary Islands are located in the Atlantic Ocean, 1,050 km from the European continent, opposite the west coast of Africa. The archipelago is composed of seven major islands and others of smaller size, divided into two provinces: the province of Las Palmas, formed by the islands of Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and the westernmost province, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is formed by the islands of Tenerife, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera. With a total area of 7,447 km2, the islands have a population of about 1,630,000 inhabitants (1998). The two most populated islands are Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The first has a population of 715,994 inhabitants and the second of 677,485 inhabitants.
